Produktbeschreibung
Raimund Fastenbauer’s work consists of two parts in which he presents both the internal developments of the Jewish community of Vienna and Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien (IKG) as its representing body as well as their relationships and conflicts with the political environment. This includes both political parties and figures such as Bruno Kreisky and his ambivalent attitude towards Judaism and Israel or Kurt Waldheim, respectively. The self-esteem that Jews in Vienna regained in later years as well as the slowly emerging belief in a future worth living in Austria – despite reoccurring Antisemitism – represent a strong contrast to the depressing situation in the decades following the Shoah. The Jewish infrastructure in Vienna (Jewish schools, psychosocial services, kosher shops and restaurants, religious institutions) subsequently surpassed much stronger Jewish communities in Europe.
