Picture-book reading is not only popular and promotes language development in kindergarten, but is also used in religious education as a medium for religious socialisation. Anna Tobies examines whether the dialogical structure of picture-book reading contributes to the development of religious language skills in kindergarten-aged children and how it enables religious education in everyday reading interactions. Using the documentary method, it reconstructs how shared religious experiences arise and personal religiosity is communicated. In addition, the work considers reading aloud as a social practice in which social norms are also conveyed.
