Produktbeschreibung
I chose this topic to address unresolved questions from my master's thesis, which examined the Nigerian woman as Other in the Nigerian society through the feminist theories of Simon de Beauvoir and Judith Butler. By expanding my scope to explore Afro-descended women’s experiences of gender through a Black feminist lens, this study moves beyond western, white epistemologies to propose alternative visions of liberation rooted in the lives of those at the margins of the margin.
2. What new perspectives does your book offer?
My book foregrounds a transnational archive of Black feminist thought on the workings of power. It takes seriously the concepts of intersectionality and misogynoir, using them as analytical tools to deconstruct the overalapping power structures that shape Black women's experiences. Furthermore, it examines the contradictions embedded in the lives of African women as enduring afterlives of the colonial gender system.
3. What makes your topic relevant for current research debates?
As fascism continues to proliferate globally and environmental and water crises rise to the forefront of Western academic agendas, monolithic analyses of power was never adequate and continues to be inadequate. Now more than ever, literary and cultural research committed to unmasking the entanglements of race, gender, capitalism, white supremacy, neoliberalism, neocolonialism is needed in the fight for a just and livable world.
4. Choose one person you would like to discuss your book with!
I would like to discuss my book with a young Black girl.
5. Your book summary in one sentence:
Woman, African, Other examines the intersections of global and local power structures as they shape the lived experiences of women of African descent.
