Language and locality are of paramount importance to Johann Georg Hamann’s authorship. His ‘metacritique’ is based upon constellations and communication, thus drawing attention to the fact that thinking is bound to tradition, dependent on the senses, and relying on language. By means of model forms, Hamann stresses the cultural conditioning of thinking, opposing it to its own claim for unconditional validity. His philosophical point of departure is his historical and bodily situation. The author examines aspects of positional linguistics and communicative physicality in the work of Hamann.
