Europe, anyone?

The present book offers a systematic analysis of the so-called "EU communication deficit” and descriptively illustrates how the complex multilevel reality of the European political setting exerts a direct impact on the day-to-day communication practice of EU spokespersons and their interactions with journalists. By drawing on the insights of key communicators in the European Commission, the author develops an innovative new concept of a two-fold European public sphere and connects it to practical problems of communicating EU policies to the press and electronic media.

By examining the specific parameters and constraints of communicating in a supranational framework, the study presents an original re-evaluation of the often lamented European communication deficit and offers a refreshingly new take on the mission impossible of communicating Europe.
