Abstract This handbook introduces the basic issues of the German and Russian labour law as part of the respective national economic system and outlines its structure in national reports that illustrate the state of legal development as well as the influence of the economic conditions and historical changes. The handbook systemizes legal materials, as it is customary in both Russia and Germany. This presentation highlights the different approach of the two countries to the regulation of labour law. Key issues such as the sources of labour law, the contract of employment and the duties of its parties, the termination of the employment and fixed-term agreements are discussed as well as the fundamental principles of collective bargaining, collective action and worker’s representation. The contributions are complemented by articles on labour market policy and labour migration. A legal comparison concludes the volume. The handbook is aimed at researchers and practitioners in the field of labour law.
