Romania Africana

The Romance languages are primarily described in terms of their existence in Europe and America. French and Portuguese, in particular, are also widely spoken in Africa, where Spanish and faint traces of Italian can be found as well. This book explores their integration into multilingual African environments, examining relationships with indigenous languages and English. It explains how the Romance languages were introduced to Africa and how they asserted themselves over other languages. The book discusses how they coexist with these languages today, how they develop new features in this environment, and how these features are evaluated by different speakers.
