Abstract The German broadcast system has grown historically – in ist beginning after World War II as a service produced by public-law and its institutions following the British Boradcasting Company as a blueprint. In the late 1980s, the system was opened by media politics for private broadcast offers, which has led to structures which are in many ways hard to work out. The complexity of links between broadcasters of both worlds and production companies or facilitators is impressive, the network itself is more and more under suspiction after the German anti trust office investigated the field and the publication of first data sets the study at hand is based on. The positive feedback and reaction on the first outcome enforced the authors to publish the complete exploration concerning the network with its complex set of links in the private and public television providers of Germany – it is a first but coherent snap-shot of an industry in transition.
