Produktbeschreibung
The life and work of Alfred Hein, a writer from Upper Silesia, was shaped by both world wars of the 20th century. This author of poems, novels and short stories, who created during the first four decades of this century, felt the consequences of the First World War he experienced in his youth throughout his life and tried to work out his own idea of peace in literature. The Second World War, however, ended his literary career at an early stage. The first part of this volume presents Hein’s life, which took him from Upper Silesia through the western front of the First World War, East Prussia and Halle an der Saale to Berlin, and characterises his literary work. The second part of the volume is devoted to the analysis of spaces of war and peace in selected novels by Hein from the 1920s and 1930s.
