Produktbeschreibung
We've been engaging with questions concerning digital interculturality for many years and we wanted to bring these discussions together with the discussion surrounding cosmpolitanism, which does something similar but maybe from a different disciplinary angle.
2. What new perspectives does your book offer?
Cosmopolitanism may perhaps be deemed as a ›worn‹ concept lacking freshness, but merging it with the discourses surrounding postdigitality and posmigration faciliates the emergence of a unique perspective that reimagines digital cosmopolitanism. These conceptual and contextual frameworks of cosmopolitanism, postdigitality and postmigration are actually intertwined and cannot be thought of separately anymore.
3. What makes your topic relevant for current research debates?
The book approaches the reimagination of digital cosmopolitanism under the conditions of postdigitality and postmigration from various perspectives: It offers contributions to the theoretical-analytical discourse that is interconnected with the interdisciplunary area of Internet Studies, but it also reveals unique empirical insights into everyday digital cosmopolitanism in online discursive cultures that add to and extend current research debates.
4. Choose one person you would like to discuss your book with!
It would be great to discuss the book with Diogenes. The Greek thinker (probably) coined the word ›cosmopolitan‹ and apparently decided that he was a ›citizen of the world‹. We would be curious if he would see in the developments represented in our book the realisiation of his cosmopolitan vision, under the freedom-giving but also constraining conditions of postdigitality and postmigration. But he would probably just tell us to get out of his sunlight, as famously cranky as he was!
5. Your book summary in one sentence:
The book reimagines digital cosmopolitanism from a postdigital and postmigrant perspective, incorporating theory and empiricism.
