Produktbeschreibung
Although ahead of his time in many personal life decisions, Prince Max of Saxony (1870-1951), brother of Frederick Augustus III, the last King of Saxony, is largely unknown in his native country. As a priest, he espoused the union of the Eastern and Roman churches on an equal footing and was reprimanded by the Pope. As a field chaplain, he experienced the atrocities of World War I and became a self-confessed pacifist on whom the king imposed residence restrictions. A vegetarian, anti-alcoholic and opponent of smoking, he also championed the ideals of the life reform movement. Prince Max spent most of his life as a professor in Friborg (Switzerland). In view of his material modesty and helpfulness to all those in need, there were many, after his death, who were convinced they had lived alongside a saint. Eleven essays shed light on the life, work and repercussions of this highly interesting member of the House of Wettin. The illustrations show personal belongings, photos and documents from his estate.
