Abstract
Scripted reality shows are a phenomenon of entertainment television that creates specific forms of television reality by combining factual and fictional elements. In these shows, amateur actors act out a fictional script that is based on everyday life situations. However, the aesthetic modes of presentation used in the shows resemble the style of documentary reality TV.
The articles in this book use innovative methodological approaches to analyse the televisual products, production strategies, forms of acceptance and cross-media aspects of scripted reality shows. In this way, the phenomenon of scripted reality is explored in its forms and ranges and located within ongoing debates on television reality. The main issues dealt with in the articles relate to forms of serial narration beyond the televisual product, practices of producing factuality, perception modes of scripted reality contents and media convergence through accompanying websites.
