Produktbeschreibung
After World War II, hundred thousands of children were born to Allied soldiers and German women – resulting from romantic relationships, brief affairs or acts of sexual violence. These “occupation children” faced stigmatization due to their birth outside the wedlock, their perception as the “offspring of the enemy,” and their absent biological fathers. These circumstances frequently resulted in experiences of familial conflict, blame, and social exclusion. Until today many of them search for their fathers and familial roots, often supported by associations and self-help groups. The “occupation grandchildren” are also involved in this search. Sophie Hubbe examines the manner in which memories and narratives are transmitted within the families and the significance of the Allied grandfather.
