Castra et Villae in der Spätantike:

The latest volume in the Castellum Pannonicum Pelsonense series reports on current research projects concerning the inner fortifications of Pannonia and selected case studies related to the military and villa architecture in a region extending from Pannonia to the Black Sea. Eight contributions compare the well-known fortifications of Alsóheténypuszta, Keszthely-Fenékpuszta, Ságvár, Tác und Környe with further castra and villae in other regions. They offer a perspective that looks beyond the Danube provinces towards the High Rhine in the west and the central Balkans in the south. Chronologically, the period under investigation ranges from the late 3rd century to the early 7th century A.D.. The studies highlight the importance of landscape archaeology in interpretation and the embedding of specific establishments at micro-regional and macro-regional scales, as attested by new evidence concerning their function.
