Faulheit in der Kunst

Das Thema der Faulheit wird im Mittelalter und in der frühen Neuzeit anhand von Zeichnungen, Graphiken, Gemälden, Wandteppichen und Skulpturen behandelt, die zumeist im Zusammenhang der sieben Todsünden stehen. Sie entstammen der Hand von Künstlern wie Dürer, Cranach, Goltzius, Bruegel u.a. Oftmals handelt es sich dabei um Illustrationen zentraler Texte von Prudentius, Dante, Sebastian Brant und Christine de Pizan, die vor allem ein Ziel haben, nämlich die Trägen aufzuwecken. Damit steht Faulheit in einem sozialgeschichtlichen Kontext, welcher sowohl in der Analyse der Texte als auch durch die Deutung der Bilder herausgearbeitet wird. The theme of slothfulness was handled during the Middle Ages and the early modern period in drawings, prints, paintings, tapestries and sculptures, most of which are related to the seven deadly sins.
