Abstract
This book explains digital changes within film distribution in Germany both competently and understandably, and can be seen as a standard introduction to theory and practice. More and more digital market players are penetrating existing markets and promoting variety and innovation. However, they are also disrupting long established market structures. This book highlights their influence on three players: distributors of content rights, both traditional and new digital TV platforms along with their current and future roles, and strategic approaches to safeguarding their market coexistence. For this purpose, the book examines the German TV market and local film distribution, the legal structures and diverse exploitation of programme rights, as well as the digital TV platform Netflix. The results of expert interviews and a theoretical concept give clear business guidance in coping with the ongoing structural changes.
