Produktbeschreibung
Of the various popular media, television has received relatively little attention in German-language academic discourse. On one hand, this is not surprising, considering the still dominant and misleading distinction between high art (E-Kunst) and popular art (U-Kunst). On the other hand, it may seem surprising for the same reasons. The diverse TV formats, prime-time shows, or Saturday evening programs in the history of German television can be seen as reflections of their (broadcast) time. They reflect the expectations of their viewers and the changing TV audience from generation to generation, an audience that is turning its back on linear television in favor of streaming services, where (digital) television becomes not a moment to be savored, but a moment to skip.
