Produktbeschreibung

This book explores the memoirs of pink-collar workers – workers in jobs typically held by women - from the South Asian countries of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka in the Middle East, particularly Kuwait. The book notes the historical ties of South Asia to the Gulf country of Kuwait, and its ramifications on migration trends from South Asia. The heart of the book are the memoirs that highlight the trajectory of the migrant women workers’ experience in the land of the “other”, and the “othering” of their own people in the home country. The book interweaves sociological frameworks and theories that bring together the fundamentals of migrant women’s establishment in the land of the “other.” Areas explored are their journey in the host country; their constant tussle between ‘here’ and ‘there’; the experience of family reunion; the importance of financial recompense; the longevity of stay; and the stimuli to their transformative experiences, form some of the key narratives in the book. The later chapters look into the future of pink-collar migration.
