Ambientada en un reino imaginario, esta novela nos muestra a una sociedad dividida por el color de la sangre. Por un lado está la gente comú n que tiene sangre roja; por el otro tenemos a aquellos que poseen sangre plateada y que tienen habilidades sobrenaturales. Estos ú ltimos forman una é lite cerrada y llena de privilegios. La protagonista es Mare, una chica de sangre roja que sobrevive en medio de la pobreza realizando pequeñ os robos. Cierto dí a, el azar la lleva a la corte. Allí demuestra tener poderes especiales, los cuales resultan insó litos para alguien del pueblo. Ello la convierte en una anomalí a que llama la atenció n del mismí simo rey. é ste desea aprovechar en su beneficio los poderes de la joven y la hace pasar por una princesa, quien supuestamente se casará con uno de sus hijos. Set in an imaginary kingdom, this novel shows us a society divided by the color of blood. On one side are the common people who have red blood; on the other we have those who have silver blood and who have supernatural abilities. The latter form a closed elite full of privileges. The protagonist is Mare, a red-blooded girl who survives in poverty by carrying out small robberies. One day, chance takes her to court. There she shows that she has special powers, which are unusual for someone from the village. This makes her an anomaly that attracts the attention of the king himself. He wants to take advantage of the young woman's powers for his benefit and makes her pass for a princess, who will supposedly marry one of his sons. Once at court, Mare becomes part of the silver world and, secretly, helps the Scarlet Guard, a group that is preparing a rebellion.
