Abstract Social networks are shaping how traditional media forms are setting their agendas, and they are challenging their exclusive role in public debate. Donald Trump is the most prominent example of this shift, with the president of the United States being able to influence media coverage with just one tweet. But to what extent and under which circumstances have social networks been able to take the lead in this respect? This book offers answers to these questions by analysing the relationship between Twitter and leading German media groups with big data.
