Systems Biology of Free Radicals and Anti-Oxidants

This collection of reviews by experts in the field summarizes the current state of free radical biology spanning the range from a tissue / organ level to whole body physiology. Data from both animal and human studies are reviewed. The regulation of both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species are critically examined based on recent molecular aspects and regional localization of free radical producing and removal enzyme systems. The utility of various anti-oxidants (plant derived and synthetic) is evaluated with the view to developing site-specific therapies.
