Only in the Philippines

Attracted at an early age to the field of medicine by the famous Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Robert C. Turner from North Carolina becomes a successful physician. Together with his wife Melinda, a nurse from the Philippines, as well as some other expatriate Filipino colleagues, he joins a non-profit organization which goes on medical missions to the island state in the western Pacific Ocean yearly. Dr. Turner keeps a journal of each of these trips. In this book, he remembers his experiences in the Philippines. He describes the country and its people, whether it's the party atmosphere of the ubiquitous fiestas, the picturesque life of the dying out solo fishermen, the controversial ancient tradition of cockfighting or the beauty contests for young women.
