The accelerating process of European economic integration has become one of the key challenges for the management of firms in Europe. The issues on the agenda are far reaching. It is not only a question of expanding the scope of business; the whole process of Europeanization basically requires a fundamental shift in managerial thinking. "Management of Human Resources and Industrial Relations in Europe" responds to challenges and problems that European companies are likely to face in their way to transcend traditional national frames of reference. The focus is on salient human resource management issues and challenges which must be dealt with when managing people successfully across European borders. The European side of these issues is explored and conclusions, in terms of basic options open to management, are drawn. The textbook consists of the three main modules: (A) "Managing Human Resources in a European Context", (B) "Corporate Culture: The Silent Language of European Business", and (C) "Industrial Relations-Systems in Europe: Implications for Trans-Cultural Management". Module A (written by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Wachter, Universitiit Trier), addresses the issue of managing human resources in firms which are, either moving towards "Europeanization", or are already fully European.
