Produktbeschreibung

April 14, 1994 will mark the 100th anniversary of the death of linguist, literary historian and poet Adolf Friedrich Graf von Schack, who was born in Schwerin in 1815. He became famous for his collection of paintings of contemporary artists, which can be seen
in the Schack Gallery in Munich, and for his extensive and many-faceted literary studies.
His work "Arab Poetry and Art in Spain and Sicily" prepared the way for an appreciation of the contribution which the Arabs made to Spanish and thus European civilization.
The poet Firdusi (Firdausi), ca. 940 - ca. 1020, is the author of the Iranian national epic Shah-Nameh (Royal Book), which in 60,000 couplets tells the history of Iran from its beginnings up to the end of the Sassanid dynasty. The most important parts of this work fundamental for the understanding of Iranian civilization are now made accessible again by way of a reprint of Schack's German translation.
