Foracomparison,apull-typeschedul­ ingstrategyisillustratedwithsomerecentresultsfortheJust-In-Timeand multilevelschedulingofflexibleassemblylines. Numericalexamplesprovide thereaderwithpossibleapplicationsofthevariousmodellingandsolution approachespresented. InChapter7simultaneousschedulingofassemblystationsandautomated guidedvehiclesisdiscussedforageneralFASandtwodifferentsolutionap­ proachesarepresented:(i)amulti-levelapproach,inwhichfirstmachine loadingandassemblyroutingproblemissolvedandthen,giventaskassign­ mentsandassemblyroutesselected,detailedmachineandvehicleschedules aredetermined;(ii)asingle-levelapproach,inwhichmachineandvehicle schedulesaredirectlydeterminedwithnoinitialloadingandroutingdeci­ sionsrequired.
