Abstract
is volume analyzes European-African relations against the background of a changing notion of security. It focuses on three questions. First, can the EU become a security policy actor in Africa? Second, what characterizes decision-making processes in the context of EU Africa policy? Third, which motives have driven changes in the framework of EU Africa policy?
In recent years Africa has gained increasing importance in European politics. The main reason for this development has been the multidimensional security challenges on the African continent. However, European Africa policy cannot be understood without taking its historical roots into account. Therefore, the book examines the learning processes through which European security policy in Africa has gone, in historical perspective. Using various criteria, it assesses, whether the European approach to Africa has developed from power politics to enlightened self-interest?
