Produktbeschreibung
Apollonia, a Greek colony founded at the end of the 7th century B.C. by Corinth and Corfu in current-day Albania, is the largest site in the country. In imperial times, the magna urbs was a hub for land and maritime trade; the Roman ceramics recently uncovered in a district that housed the aristocracy is evidence of the quality of this trade and the region’s rich artistic and cultural life. This book is intended to establish a corpus of the Roman ceramics found in Apollonia. The study focuses on the material uncovered in the lower city referred to as “sector Gâ€. Initially, the excavated material provides us with an insight into the historical timeline of the lower city but also into the decline of the city that can be pinpointed to the 4th century A.D. Following on from this, an in-depth study of the ceramics gives us a better understanding of culinary practices in this area of the Balkans during imperial times and whether the culinary traditions inherited from the Greek colonists persisted. Overall, this analysis provides us with information on the economic circuits, the trade routes, how materials were exchanged and the relationships between Apollonia and the Mediterranean and Aegean worlds.
