Abstract
Every educational institution, regardless of whether it is an academy, a technical college or a university, is a mental and physical instrument of education. This institutionalised instrument has developed historically and is culturally different depending on the country one is from, the language one speaks, one’s social class and one’s gender. Without such pillars of society, which people are heavily reliant on, no one would be able to survive. In the school system, adolescents are disciplined and prepared for disciplines which they pursue in more detail and complexity at university, where obtaining a degree is the only thing that counts. In contrast, the process of learning itself is a subsidiary matter. Nowadays, everyone can acquire all the knowledge they need to gain a degree on internet websites, and then their degree certificate determines the onset of their working lives. Why is this so or, more importantly, for how much longer? The demise of higher education has commenced. Anyone who enjoys learning, does so independently of the overbearingly authoritarian and boring universities these days. The hour of the autodidacts and brave dilettantes has arrived.
